Super Model Naomi Campbell Has Had A Global Impact

Naomi Elaine Campbell is part of the group of five original supermodels. Born on May 22nd 1970 in London, England, Naomi Campbell burst on to the scene at age 15. Since that time the stunningly beautiful Black model has appeared on the covers of over 500 magazines. Throughout her career she has become famous for being the featured model in fashion campaigns for Burberry, Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Valentino, Versace and Louis Vuitton. That helped to make her one of the best known models on the planet and a role model for women of all ages and races.

Campbell has had several important firsts in her fantastic career. When she appeared on Time magazine’s cover, she became the first black model ever to do so. She was also the first Black model to grace the cover of Russian Vogue and French Vogue as well. When Campbell was on the cover of British Vogue in December 1987, she was the first Black British model ever and the first Black woman since 1966, to do so. But even while making her groundbreaking firsts, the runway was an important part of her domain. She turned heads as she showcased the stunning collections of some of the world’s top designers.

Campbell appeared in music videos for the Bob Marley song ‘Is It Love’, ‘In The Closet’ by Michael Jackson and Madonna’s ‘Erotica’. Additionally, Campbell appeared in TV shows like ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ and ‘The Cosby Show’ and a host of movies. In the 1980s and 90s Naomi Campbell was nothing short of a phenomenon. At the height of her fame Campbell her celebrity to raise funds for and people consciousness of many worthwhile causes. Her endless activism was so powerful in 1997 Nelson Mandela called Naomi Campbell his ‘Honorary Granddaughter’.

Since then Campbell has been executive producer on ‘The Face’ and helped create opportunity for the Oxygen acclaimed series’ contestants. She continues to be a force in the fashion world, a successful entrepreneur and a champion for oppressed people worldwide.
